Platform Glossary

Definitions for key terms used across the ReBattery platform.

Updated 1 April 2026

Roles

Supplier

An organisation or individual selling used, end-of-life, or surplus battery stock. Suppliers create listings, set pricing, and coordinate collection.

Buyer

An organisation or individual purchasing battery stock through the marketplace. Buyers can submit offers or use Buy Now on fixed-price listings.

Recycler

A specialist processor that accepts batteries for end-of-life treatment. Recyclers respond to enquiries, provide recycling terms, and issue confirmation documentation once processing is complete.

Listings and Marketplace

Listing

A single battery stock unit or batch published by a supplier. Each listing has a category, condition declaration, pricing mode, collection schedule, and channel mode.

Fixed Price

A pricing mode where the supplier sets a firm price per unit. Enables the Buy Now flow — buyers proceed directly to deal without negotiation.

Negotiated Price

A pricing mode that opens a bidding and messaging thread between buyer and supplier before terms are agreed.

Buy Now

A purchase action available on fixed-price listings. The buyer bypasses the offer stage and proceeds straight to deal creation.

Channel Mode

A listing setting that determines who can interact with it. Options are: Sale (open to buyers), Recycling (open to recyclers), or Both (open to both simultaneously).

State of Health (SOH)

A battery's remaining capacity as a percentage of its original rated capacity. An SOH of 100% means full capacity; lower percentages indicate degradation from use or age. Suppliers declare SOH in the listing specifications.

Deals and Workflow

Deal

A transaction record created when an offer is accepted or a Buy Now action is taken. Deals move through a defined sequence of workflow steps shared by both parties.

Workflow Step

A named stage in the deal lifecycle. Both sides must advance or confirm each step before the deal proceeds. See the Deal Lifecycle page for the full sequence.

Terms Agreed

The workflow step at which both parties have confirmed price, quantity, and fulfilment terms. Payment becomes available at this step.

Agreement

A legally-binding document generated once terms are agreed. Both parties must sign before collection can proceed.

Payments

Payment Pending

An intermediate deal state when a payment has been submitted but has not yet cleared — for example, a bank transfer in progress. The deal advances to Payment Confirmed automatically once the payment succeeds. No action is required from either party during this window.

Escrow

The platform holds buyer funds after payment until the deal reaches completion, then releases them to the supplier's connected account.

Connected Account

A Stripe account linked to a supplier's ReBattery account. Required to receive payouts.

Payout

The transfer of held funds from the platform to the supplier once a deal is marked complete.

Platform Fee

A percentage of the agreed deal value deducted by the platform before releasing payout to the supplier. The fee is shown at listing creation and confirmed at deal terms — before signing.

Compliance

SDS (Safety Data Sheet)

A document detailing the chemical composition and hazards of a battery. Required for certain battery categories listed on the platform.

UN38.3

A UN transport test standard for lithium batteries. Suppliers may be asked to confirm compliance when listing lithium chemistries.

Condition Declaration

A supplier-provided statement of the battery's physical and functional state, included in every listing.

Recycling

Recycling Enquiry

A request submitted by a buyer or supplier to a recycler to process a specific battery batch.

Processing Terms

The recycler's conditions for accepting a batch, including any handling fees, required documentation, and timeline.

Recycling Confirmation

A document issued by the recycler once processing is complete. Serves as the end-of-life record for the battery.
