Thin markets. Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, Audi Q8 e-tron and BYD Seal packs are mostly listed at £5,500 to £8,000, but one or two sellers account for most of those listings. Treat them as a reference, not a market price.
What changed since the summer
Using the same method, the typical asking price across all packs was almost unchanged: about £45 per kWh in July and August, and about £46 per kWh in September and early October. Underneath, some models moved.
- Steady: Nissan Leaf, Renault Zoe, BMW iX and the MG5 held their prices.
- Up: Jaguar I-PACE rose from about £3,850 to £4,750, Ford Mustang Mach-E from about £4,000 to £4,990, and the MG4 from about £2,080 to £2,350.
- Down: Audi e-tron fell from about £4,760 to £3,460, Polestar 2 from about £3,500 to £2,900, and BMW i3 from about £2,710 to £2,450.
Samples per model are small, so read these as direction, not precision.
Our Q1 2026 report quoted about £38 per kWh. It blended UK and international listings and used a different filter, so it is not directly comparable with this edition.
Asking price is not the price you will get
Asking prices show where sellers start, not where deals close. Packs often sell below the listed price, and many sit unsold for weeks. What moves the final price:
- Model and capacity. Buyers pay for the packs they can use. Popular repair and second-life packs such as the Leaf 40 kWh and Zoe sell fastest.
- State of health. A recent BMS read or capacity test raises buyer confidence and the offer.
- Condition. Intact casing, connectors and BMS matter. Crash and water damage narrow the buyer pool.
- Volume. Several packs of the same model attract buyers who want repeat supply.
- Location. Collection distance and dangerous-goods transport come off the net price.
Questions
Question: How much is a used EV battery worth in the UK?
Short answer: A complete used EV battery pack is typically listed at about £46 per kWh in the UK, so a 40 kWh Nissan Leaf pack is listed at around £1,900 and a 90 kWh Jaguar I-PACE pack at around £4,750. The price you achieve depends on the model, state of health, condition, volume and who is buying.
Question: What is the price per kWh for a used EV battery?
Short answer: About £46 per kWh on asking prices in Q4 2026, with the middle half of listings between £42 and £77 per kWh. Popular, smaller packs such as the Zoe sit near the bottom of that range; newer premium packs such as the BMW iX sit near the top.
Question: Are these sale prices?
Short answer: No. They are asking prices. Confirmed sale prices are usually lower, which is why getting several offers matters more than matching a listing.
Question: How often is this guide updated?
Short answer: Every quarter. The next edition is due in January 2027.
How we calculate these prices
- Source: the ReBattery Market Index. It combines a weekly scan of UK online marketplace listings, about 9,000 battery listings a week across the 100 most-registered UK electric car families, with listings on ReBattery's own marketplace. Each listing is classified by AI and checked against the vehicle it claims to fit.
- Period: listings live between 4 September and 2 October 2026, each counted once at its latest price. The comparison period is 13 July to 31 August 2026.
- Included: complete high-voltage traction packs from fully electric cars, matched to the named model, with a stated capacity of 15 kWh or more, priced in GBP. Hybrid and mild-hybrid batteries, modules, cells and parts are excluded.
- Typical price: the median of each seller's median asking price, so one seller with many identical listings cannot set the figure. "Middle half" is the 25th to 75th percentile of all listings.
- Confidence: High means 12 or more listings from at least 8 sellers, with no seller above 40% of listings. Medium means 6 or more listings from at least 5 sellers, with no seller above 50%. Models below that are left out of the table.
