Reference
The Polestar 2 shares the CMA platform and its pack sizes with the Volvo XC40 and C40 Recharge, called EX40 and EC40 from the 2025 model year. Standard range and Volvo Single Motor cars have the 69 or 70 kWh pack; Long range and Twin Motor cars have the 78 or 82 kWh pack. Listings at 67 kWh can be either standard pack, so they stay on this page.
Standard range, 2022 to 2024
The 69 kWh pack is the Standard range pack of the Polestar 2 from 2022 to mid-2024 and of the Volvo XC40 and C40 Recharge Single Motor to early 2024. It is 69 kWh gross and about 66 to 67 kWh usable.
Built into
Standard range, from 2024
The 70 kWh pack is the Standard range pack of the Polestar 2 from mid-2024 and of the Volvo EX40 and EC40 Single Motor from 2024. It charges at up to 180 kW DC.
Built into
Long range, 2020 to 2023, 27 modules (Polestar 2)
The 78 kWh pack is the first Long range pack of the Polestar 2 and the Twin Motor pack of the Volvo XC40 and C40 Recharge to 2022: 78 kWh gross and 75 kWh usable, about 500 kg. The Polestar 2 pack has 27 modules of 12 cells.
Built into
Long range and Extended Range, from 2023
The 82 kWh pack replaced the 78 kWh pack in the Polestar 2 Long range from mid-2023 and in the Volvo Twin Motor from 2023. It is 82 kWh gross, about 78 to 79 kWh usable, and charges at up to 200 to 205 kW DC.

Each fact is confirmed by two independent sources: Polestar and Volvo manuals, rescue guides and press material (counted as one source), plus ADAC, electrive, InsideEVs, CleanTechnica and Electrifying.com. Facts we could not confirm twice are left out. Checked .Part numbers and sources are on each size's page.
Questions
Still unsure which pack is right? A specialist can check fitment with you.
Talk to a specialistCheck the year, the motor and the market. Polestar 2 Standard range: 69 kWh from 2022 to mid-2024, then 70 kWh (69 kWh in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong, the UAE and Kuwait). Polestar 2 Long range: 78 kWh to early 2023, 82 kWh from the 2024 model year; in the US, the 2024 Dual motor still has 78 kWh. Volvo Single Motor: 69 kWh to early 2024, then 70 kWh. Volvo Twin Motor: 78 kWh to 2022, then 82 kWh, as in the Single Motor Extended Range.
No. The 78 kWh pack (75 kWh usable) was used to the 2023 model year (2024 in the US Dual motor); in the Polestar 2 it has LG Chem cells and charges at up to 150 to 155 kW DC. The 82 kWh pack (about 78 to 79 kWh usable) came with the 2024 model year; in the Polestar 2 it has CATL cells and charges at up to 200 to 205 kW. No source confirms that one fits a car built with the other. ADAC gives 78 kWh as the 82 kWh pack's usable figure, so for a 2024-on car check the label.
No. No Polestar 2, XC40, C40, EX40 or EC40 pack goes above 82 kWh gross. A 100 kWh listing for these cars may be a typo, a state-of-health percentage entered as kWh, or a pack from another car. Ask the seller for a photo of the label.
The Polestar 2 Standard range sold in Europe from late 2021 to early 2022 was listed at 64 kWh; ADAC gives 61 kWh usable. It was short-lived and has no page of its own, so listings at 61 or 64 kWh stay on this page. Sources do not settle whether it is the same pack as the later 69 kWh one.
Polestar 2 packs with a fixed price on ReBattery are listed from £2,083 (78 kWh) to £4,163 (82 kWh) right now. The price depends on condition and measured health, and some sellers take offers instead. Fitting by an EV garage costs extra.
