Tesla Model 3 battery types

We list two Model 3 pack types: LFP in the Standard Range and RWD cars (built in Shanghai for the UK and EU), and the nickel-based Long Range and Performance pack. Tell them apart by the VIN, not the kWh label.

LFPStandard Range / RWD

The Tesla Model 3 LFP battery is the Standard Range and RWD pack, built in Shanghai for UK and EU cars: lithium iron phosphate cells in a 400 V class pack, about 60 kWh in the 2022–23 RWD. Its VIN has F as the seventh character.

The Tesla Model 3 Long Range and Performance battery uses 2170 cylindrical cells in a liquid-cooled 400 V class pack: 4,416 cells wired 96s46p in the early Fremont-built Long Range pack, and LG Energy Solution NCM cells in Shanghai-built cars.

Which Model 3 battery do I have?

Check the VIN. If its seventh character is F, the car has the LFP battery. The first three characters give the factory: 5YJ is Fremont, LRW is Shanghai. On a 2019 to 2023 Fremont car, an E in seventh place does not tell you the chemistry.

How much does a used Model 3 battery cost?

It depends on size, condition and health. Each listing shows a price, takes offers or lets you ask for a price. Fitting by an EV garage costs extra.

What if the pack is not as described?

You have 7–14 business days to inspect it. Raise it with evidence and the seller is not paid until it is resolved.
